Breaking down the barriers to health screening

Are you a disabled person living in Manchester?

Are you happy to talk about any of your experiences in being invited for a health test, or having a test done?

The screening programmes we are asking about are:

  • Screening in pregnancy
  • Cervical screening (smear tests)
  • Breast screening
  • Bowel cancer screening (for people over 60)
  • Eye screening for people with diabetes
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening

Policy and Research Manager at Breakthrough Elaine Astley said: “We are running a series of workshops, which will be quite relaxed, about tests that are relevant to you. Anything you tell us will be anonymised.”

Workshops discussions will include:

  • How to access screening and what it is
  • Your experiences of accessing health screening
  • What the barriers are – and what works well
  • Why people might choose not to take part
  • Your ideas for making screening more accessible
  • What information disabled people require around health screening
