Simpson Haugh architects have won an award for Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop in the category “Infrastructure Project of the Year”. The national awards are presented by the Architects Journal and “celebrate and reward design excellence in UK architecture”.
Dave Green from Simpson Haugh architects valued the input from DDRG and specifically mentioned the role of the group in his submission:
“Extensive stakeholder consultation took place during development, particularly regular consultation with the Disability Design Reference Group, allowing input from people representing a range of disabilities. The collective feedback received on designs with a focus on accessibility informed all decisions, from the nature and location of the new accesses from street level and the height of stop equipment, to appropriate levels of translucency of the fritted leaf pattern in the scalloped canopies over the platforms – the nature of the shadows that these would cast and the impact that they would have on the partially sighted.”
