Collaborative has 5 workstreams. These are:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Transport<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Education<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Housing and the Built Environment<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Employment and Skills<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Health and Social Care<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>These workstreams meet regularly. We also have our <strong>Strategic Forum<\/strong>, where our key partners such as Disabled People&#8217;s Organisations and stakeholders meet to discuss the direction and progress of the MDC.\u00a0<\/p><p>We are also proud to have <strong>Manchester Lived Experience Leaders<\/strong> on board.<\/p><p>Moreover, we organise the <strong>Disabled People&#8217;s Assembly<\/strong> every year.<\/p><h2>Our Work and Impact:<\/h2><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We have helped shape transport policy with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). We have also informed Manchester City Council\u2019s (MCC) responses to national policies on social security and\u00a0employment, and\u00a0supported better website design and accessible information.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>We are proud that our co-produced approach is being recognised for its impact.<\/strong> We are also pleased that its influence is spreading deeper into, and beyond, Manchester. <span class=\"TextRun SCXW59624227 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW59624227 BCX8\">These changes are helping to improve everyday life for Disabled people in Manchester.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP Selected SCXW59624227 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><p>Across our Workstream areas, we work with a wide range of committed partners to help ensure Disabled people are at the heart of leadership and decision-making.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>In June, MDC\u2019s\u00a0Chair Toby\u00a0Mildon and\u00a0Strategic Manager\u00a0Jas Taylor met with Jackie Driver OBE, Councillor Rawlins, Deputy Leader of MCC, and Tom Stannard, Chief Executive of MCC.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Together, they discussed a shared vision for removing barriers. This builds on the City Council\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Inclusive City<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0motion from November 2025.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to meaningful engagement that recognises and properly resources the\u00a0expertise\u00a0of Disabled People\u2019s Organisations (DPOs).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Our Disabled People\u2019s Assembly, workstreams and Forum show that when DPOs lead, and when allies commit to accountability, systems improve.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At a time when DPOs face significant challenges, these platforms are more important than ever.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We are focused on\u00a0maintaining\u00a0and strengthening MDC\u2019s influence as Inclusive Manchester develops.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In our discussions with MCC, we highlighted the need for real power-sharing, meaningful co-production and accountable relationships so DPO leadership is part of how the city is governed.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As a result of this meeting, we have agreed to meet quarterly to build a strong relationship between MDC and MCC, grounded in accountability and lived experience.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kyda Grabham recently joined us on\u00a0placement, and\u00a0produced a report that\u00a0identified\u00a0where we can enhance our intersectional inclusion. They mapped the community organisations who are making change in the city, and our overlaps. We also gained some clear next steps about groups whose voices need to be raised in our work, and barrier-removal we can enact in our own approach.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Disabled People\u2019s Sounding Board\u00a0(part of MDC\u2019s Health and Social Care workstream)\u00a0is driving community-focussed change from the ground up.
