Disabled people have identified 12 Pillars of Independent Living, which we believe everyone needs to live independently.
This is the idea that it is society which disables people, not a person’s impairments, and it is society that should change. The Social Model also describes the future that we work towards: a society free from disabling barriers, where disabled people can participate fully in all areas of life.
Breakthrough UK is a Manchester based disabled people’s organisation. We are led by disabled people and we support other disabled people to work and live independently.
